Susan W. Robison of Newton, known to her friends and family as Sue, passed away May 6, 2026 at 90 years old.
Sue was born on December 8, 1935, and was the only child of W. D. (Bill) and Gene Wilding. She lived in Newton, all her life. Sue worked as a bank teller for Newton National Bank for many years and worked as a bookkeeper at several Newton businesses, including many years at Montgomery Ward, where she met her husband of nearly 50 years, Roy M. Robison. Sue was a proud mother and grandmother. Her son, Chris Thompson, currently resides in Duluth, MN with his wife Marcia Parker-Thompson and their son, Parker Thompson. Sue dearly loved Parker, who called her Grandma Moon because they enjoyed looking at the moon together. Sue also has a stepdaughter, Janet Robison who resides in Columbia, MO.
Sue attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton Senior High with the Class of 1954. She was an active member of the Alumni Association for many years, including serving as president. Her classmates enjoyed her monthly newsletters and the monthly lunches she organized for local classmates to reminisce about old times. Sue was active in local organizations such as Questers and the First United Methodist Church. She was a big supporter of Dollars for Scholars and had her own home on the Christmas Tour and the Garden Tour.
Susan was fond of dancing, especially ballroom dancing, and she signed her husband up for lessons without his knowledge and then struggled to allow him to lead. After 16 weeks of classes, they enjoyed traveling around the state to dance to the Big Band Sound and ‘50s and ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll. She enjoyed collecting antiques and was a regular at estate sales. When she found a treasure she wanted, other bidders were no match for her.
Sue was an animal lover, sharing her home and her heart with several dogs over the years. Her beloved teacup poodle Tiki has gone everywhere with her, in this life and into the next.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, W. D. (Bill) and Gene Wilding. She is survived by her husband Roy Robison, her son Chris Thompson, his wife Marcia, their son Parker, and her stepdaughter Janet.
