Tammy Lynn (Hansen) Smith

Tammy Lynn Smith, 60, of Newton died on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Tammy, the daughter of Buddy and Judy (Wilcox) Hansen, was born on June 2, 1965, in Newton.  She graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1982 and then received a business degree from AIB.  In the early 1990’s, Tammy was united in marriage with Jay Collins in Newton. Tammy lived in Newton most of her adult life and had worked as a window maker at Monarch Manufacturing.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, and leather work.  She also loved all animals, especially dogs.

Tammy is survived by her children, Buddy Nell of Kellogg, Bryce Nell of Newton, and James (Kimberly) Nell of Newton; grandchildren, Angel Nell, Carissa Nell, Drake Nell, Eli Nell, and Landon Nell; her father and step-mother, Buddy (Wilma) Hansen of Newton; brother, Dennis (Kathy) Hansen of Kellogg; and her half-siblings, Leslie (Roger) Hansen Dunn, Yvette (Terry) Kunth, Chris (Ted) Whitoff, Audrey (Terry) Powell, and Phil (Carol) Breckenridge.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy McMains and her last husband, Glen Smith.
