Thomas Martin Obituary

Tom’s family will greet friends from 4:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, February 28th at the funeral home to celebrate his life.

A private family burial will be held at the Hewitt Cemetery in rural Sully at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the American Legion Post 355 in Kellogg. Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. If you are mailing the memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Martin Family on the envelope.

Thomas “Tom” Olin Martin, the son of Robert Odell and Geraldine Van Sant Martin was born on June 5, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a graduate of Lynnville-Sully High School in 1979. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army from 1980-1984. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division as a wheel vehicle repairman in Germany.

On December 7, 1985, Tom was united in marriage with Barbara A. Vander Linden in Pella, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Ryan, Daniel and Jennifer. Tom was a production worker for the Maytag Company in Newton for 23 years. He had also worked at Manatt’s Inc. for 3 years and most recently Tom was working for Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors in Grinnell. He was a member of the American Legion Post 355 in Kellogg and he attended the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa.

Tom died on February 20, 2020, at his home in Lynnville. He was 59. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Delbert Allison; and wife, Barbara Martin in 1994.

Those left to honor Tom’s memory are his children Ryan S. (Deborah) Martin of Prairie City, Daniel K. Martin of Knoxville and Jennifer M. Cross of Baxter; four grandchildren, Addyson Covington, Riley Martin, Eldon Martin and Braedyn Martin; his siblings, Jay D. Martin of Cedar Rapids, Lyle R. (Barb) Martin of Lynnville, Eric D. Martin of Tracey, Charlyce L. (David) Weeks of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Phyllis Ann (Mike) Bountwell of Oskaloosa.
