Thomas J Netzel

Thomas J. Netzel age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2022. Tom was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 13, 1938 to his parents Anthony and Sylvia Netzel. Raised in Milwaukee, he discovered at a young age his independence and God-given talent for music. This passion led his life and was the backbone of family, friends, and events, where he touched so many lives. The Masters Graduate Program of Music at Drake University brought Tom and Kathy to Iowa. They spent 50 years in Newton, Iowa.

Tom dedicated 25+ years as the Vocal Music Director at Newton Senior High School where he led musical productions of all kinds through all seasons. He was a teacher to many who came to call him a friend and role model.  Known for his great sense of humor and for enjoying life, Netzel parties were always an event those invited did not want to miss. The man didn’t know a stranger, no matter where he lived or which child he was visiting, he made people feel good.  

Upon winding down his tenure in Newton and giving his all to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tom & Kathy headed to Chandler, AZ.  Tom and Kathy Netzel were married for 59 years and together they showed unconditional love to their six children spread all over the country Patricia Sneed (Jeffrey), MaryEllen Mischel (Richard) Paul (Pamela), Steven (Carolyn), Robert (Lynn) and Jeffrey (Misty), 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Tom leaves behind a sister, Nancy Netzel, and a brother and his wife, Michael & Steffie Netzel along with their families in Milwaukee, whom he loved very much.

A mass will be held for Tom on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, Iowa.
