Timothy “Tim” Lee Etter, 75, of Newton died on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Traditions Memory Care. A celebration of life visitation and coffee time will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial in Tim’s name (checks made payable to Erin Sommar) may be left at the funeral home.
Tim, the son of Robert Lee and Minnie Loo (Swanson) Etter, was born on October 2, 1949, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1967 and then attended Iowa State University. On January 27, 1968, Tim was united in marriage with Dianna Johnson. Tim worked many years for the Maytag Dairy Farm. He later worked for Maytag until its closure and then retired from TPI. He was a member of the UAW Local 997. After retirement, Tim and Dianna spent eight years living in Minnesota. After Dianna’s death in 2019, Tim returned to Newton in 2021. Tim enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing cards. He also loved his annual fishing trip to Minnesota with his cousins.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Erin (Sean) Sommar of Newton; grandchildren, Ben Sommar and Trinity Sommar; great-grandchildren, Roni, Elijah, Goderic, and Leona; his brother, Robert “Bobby” (Becky) Etter of Newton; and a sister-in-law, Delinda Etter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dianna; and brothers, Steve, Jim, and Bill Etter.
