Tommy Lee Illingworth, 68, of Newton died on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Following burial, the celebration of Tom’s life will continue at Pour Bastards Pub. Memorials in Tom’s name may be left at the funeral home (checks made to Diana Illingworth).
Tom, the son of Frank and Betty (Kier) Illingworth, was born on October 24, 1955 in Newton. He attended Newton Schools and while in high school worked at a cement truck driver. After high school, Tom was an over the road truck driver for 18 years. On May 29, 1982, Tom was united in marriage with Diana Springer in Newton. In the mid 90’s, Tom hung up his truck keys and began working as a small engine technician, first at Case in Grinnell and then for 25 years at Farver True Value in Newton. Tom retired in January of 2022.
Tom loved music and he and Diana were members of the South Skunk Blues Society. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley, watching Westerns, and tinkering in the garage. Tom loved his animals including, Rosey, Fiona, Jake, and Fuzz Cat. Besides his many hobbies and interests, his favorite times were spent with his grandsons.
Tom is survived by his wife, Diana Illingworth of Newton; children, Amy Revell of Baxter and Michael Illingworth of Newton; grandson, Austin Roush of Baxter; two nieces, Laura Illingworth of Raleigh, North Carolina and Heather Surber of Des Moines; and a nephew, Matthew Illingworth of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Landon Roush; and his siblings, Douglas Illingworth, Dennis Illingworth, and Shirley Van Genderen.
