Vernon L. Dalton

   Vernon L. Dalton, 79, of Newton, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Newton Village. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.  The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the funeral home. The family requests New York Yankees attire to be worn to the visitation.  Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Newton First Assembly of God can be left at the funeral home.

   Vernon, the son of Edward L. and Lois L. (Dennis) Dalton, was born July 30, 1947, in Newton. He grew up in the Baxter-Ira area, living and working on his family’s farm. He graduated from Newton High School in 1965. He then served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968.  Vernon was united in marriage with Judy Gifford on October 12, 1974, in Newton. He worked at his parents’ business, Green Acres Farm Supply. He then worked for The Maytag Company for 35 years as a control room operator and sheet metal scheduler.  After his retirement, he worked seasonally for 11 years in campground maintenance at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

   Vernon attended the Newton First Assembly of God. He also enjoyed baseball and was in a men’s fastpitch softball league in his younger years. He was a dedicated New York Yankees fan, having watched almost every game in the last 40 years.  He also enjoyed coaching baseball when his son, Jason was playing. Vernon was also a fan of Hank Williams, Jr. and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was very meticulous with his vehicles and his yard, keeping them always looking spotless.  Most of all, Vernon loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

   Vernon is survived by his wife, Judy of Newton; his son, Jason (Melissa) Dalton of Newton; 7 grandchildren: Konner Dalton, Kaden Dalton, Koen Dalton, Kellan Dalton, Madilynn Amos, Brennan Amos, and Amiya Amos; his sister, Linda Dalton of Newton; his lifelong friend and longtime partner in crime, Otis Kingery of Newton; and several extended family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
