Veronica (Haakinson) Bohall, 80, of Newton died on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Veronica’s name (checks made to Dynette Majors) to be used for a remembrance at Park Centre may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Veronica, the daughter of Wayne and Glayds (Hogg) Haakinson, was born on August 20, 1945, in London, England. As a baby she came with her mother to the United States and settled in Rodney, Iowa, where her father, Wayne’s family was from. Veronica graduated from Maple Valley High School in Mapleton, Iowa in 1964. On August 19, 1967, Veronica was united in marriage with Gregory J. Bohall in Rodney. Shortly after they would make their home in Newton. Veronica worked in production at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1997. In November of 2003, Veronica went “back to work” at Park Centre and was still employed there at the time of her death. She loved her time there working and spending time visiting with residents and co-workers.
Veronica loved having an active social life. She enjoyed lunching and chatting with friends, trying new restaurants, spending time with family, and anything that involved being with people.
Veronica is survived by her two daughters, Dynette (Scott) Majors of Lenexa, Kansas and Deanna (Bryan) Smith of Edwardsville, Kansas; grandchildren, Parker Smith and Payton Smith; her siblings, Trevor (Connie) Haakinson of Mesa, Arizona, Derek Haakinson of Afton, Oklahoma, and Eric Haakinson of Rodney; and her sister-in-law, Carla (Doug) Sutton of Newton.
