William “Bill” Russell Freese, 61, of Newton died on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Comfort House in Pella. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials in Bill’s name (checks made payable to Debra Freese) may be left at the funeral home.
Bill, the son of William C. and Patsy D. (Good) Freese, was born on March 30, 1961 in Ames. As a child he lived in Ames, Fort Madison, and then moved to Newton in 7th grade. He graduated from Newton High School in 1979 and then attended UNI. Bill worked in DHS for the State of Iowa for many years. He then worked as an Insurance Account Manager for Mercer; which was recently acquired by AMBA. Bill was united in marriage with Debra Hackathorn on September 26, 2015, at their home in Newton. Bill loved cars and motorcycles. He recently joined a Mustang Club. Bill also enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and tinkering.
Bill is survived by his wife, Debra Freese of Newton; children, Matthew (Jessica) Freese of Greenfield, Patrick (Joanna) Freese of Greenfield, Nikkia Freese of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ben Freese (Aleesa Bruns) of Clive, and Jennifer Dawson of Texas; his seven grandchildren; siblings, Candace Manka of Fort Madison and Steve (Joyce) Freese of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; and his new puppy, Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Freese; a grandchild in infancy; and brother-in-law, Michael Manka.
