Charles "Chuck" Peter Griffin

Charles “Chuck” Peter Griffin, 90, of Newton died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.  A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Chuck, the son of Jack and Lucille (Thomas) Griffin, was born on October 28, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was a 1943 graduate of Newton High School and then went on to receive his BA in Education from the University of Drake and his Masters in Education from the University of Missouri.  Chuck served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.  He was present for the signing of the peace treaty when Germany surrendered at the end of the war.  Chuck was a teacher and coach for many years and came back to Newton as an administrator for the Newton Community School District. He retired in 1987.  In his free time, Chuck enjoyed golfing.

Those left to honor Chuck’s memory are his wife, Martha of Newton; children, Lynn (Larry) Nelson of Lakeview, Iowa, Charles Peter Griffin, Jr. of Lanesboro, Minnesota, Tom (Sharon) Griffin of Waverly, Iowa, and Sue Griffin of Ralston, Nebraska; his six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Chuck’s family would like to thank the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown for the excellent care that Chuck received while he was there.
