Kevin Allen Gull

February 24, 1968 ~ June 1, 2017 (age 49) 49 Years Old

Kevin Allen Gull, 49, of Colfax, died on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Accura of Newton East.  A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, June 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family requests you come dressed comfortable and casual in your favorite Cubs, Hawkeyes, Bears, Tigerhawk, or Knoxville shirt in honor of Kevin and the people and things he loved. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Hope House run by the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Kevin, the son of Otto and Mary Lou (Saddoris) Gull, was born on February 24, 1968 in Osceola, Iowa.  He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1986.  Shortly after, Kevin met and later married Carol Mason. They married on February 13, 1999 at the Savory Hotel in Des Moines during the KGGO Numerous Nuptials event.  They were blessed with two sons, Devin and Wyatt.  Kevin worked for many years in construction for Grove Masonry with the Carpenter’s Union building houses, jails, schools, and parking garages.

Kevin enjoyed going, doing, and living life.  He enjoyed going to the Knoxville Raceway.  He loved spending time with his family and friends, cheering on The Cubs, Hawkeyes, and Bears.  Thanks to him faithfully wearing his lucky Cubbies shirt is why they won the World Series! The entire Gull family enjoyed bowling, Kevin was a member of many leagues and had recorded three perfect “300” games in his life.  Kevin also enjoyed playing baseball and later softball, where he was known for his spot on throws and his speed around the bases.  His favorite pastime was coaching sports. He loved to work with kids and watch them grow and love the game as much as he did. Kevin also enjoyed nature and wildlife and could often be found fishing, deer, turkey, and mushroom hunting, and watching eagles soar.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Carol Gull of Colfax; his two sons that filled his life with love, laughter, and pride, Devin (Ashley) Mason and Wyatt Gull; grandchildren, Zoey, Brooklynn, and Audrey Mason; brother, Khristopher Gull; sister, Tammy (Charles) Flowers; brother-in-law, Dave Mason; parents-in-law, Don and Jill Mason; his nieces and nephews, Brittany (Taylor) Reynolds, Nathan Gull, Natalie, Nick, and Noah Wakefield, Joe, Kayla and Blake Cockerton, and Lillyanna and Kayden Gull; and his lifelong friend, Jamie Fallon.  He was preceded in death by his parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.
