Ryan Klingensmith

Ryan Alan Klingensmith, 23, of Iowa City, formerly of Newton, died on Friday, June 17, 2016 in Chicago, Illinois.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25. 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.  The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 24, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Newton High School Booster Club or in Ryan’s name to be used for a scholarship in the future may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

Ryan, the son of Dennis and Lori (Anderson) Klingensmith, was born on July 19, 1992 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He grew up in Newton and was very active at Newton High School participating in Football, Track, National Honor Society, Student Council, DECA, Link Crew, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  Ryan graduated from NHS in the class of 2010.  He then went on to his beloved University of Iowa where he graduated in 2014 from the College of Business with a BA in Finance.  Following graduation he was working as an Accountant for West Liberty Foods in West Liberty. 

Ryan always lived life to the fullest.  He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, hunting, kayaking, canoeing, and running.  He also loved to cheer on the Newton Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago White Sox, and the Carolina Panthers.  Ryan was well liked by his friends and always had a smile.  He was always ready to help others and could be seen riding around the football stadium on a green John Deere with his dad, Denny, helping on the sidelines. 

Those left to celebrate Ryan’s life are his parents, Denny and Lori Klingensmith of Newton; siblings, Cory and Kelly Klingensmith of Newton; his soul mate, Kelly Pottle of St. Charles, Illinois and her family, parents, Judi and Bob Pottle of St. Charles and sisters, Rachel and Carly Pottle of St. Charles; his maternal grandmother, Martha Anderson of Newton; his paternal grandmother, Betty Klingensmith of Newton; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Forrest Klingensmith; maternal grandfather, Robert Anderson; three uncles; and a cousin.
