A Celebration of Lynn's life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton. The celebration will be held in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lynn's family can be left at the church the evening of the service or can be left at the funeral home.
Lynn, the son of Aubrey Lafayette and Lolita Fay (Starr) Jones, was born April 16, 1945 in rural Bloomfield, Iowa. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1963. Lynn served his country in the U.S. Army. After he was discharged, he moved to Newton and began working at The Maytag Company, where he drove semi-truck for the shipping and receiving department. He retired from Maytag in 2004, after 30 years of service. Lynn was united in marriage with Marvel Trotter on November 29, 1975, in Newton.
Lynn was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, listening to music, collecting things, gardening, fixing things, and feeding the birds. Most of all, he loved playing with and spoiling his grandkids.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Marvel of Newton; children, James Vander Veer of Newton, Lori Lakin of Newton, Aaron (Nikki Darter) Jones of Austin, TX, Tracy (Mike) Leith of Urbandale, and Holly (Shawn) Gealow of Las Cruces, NM; 6 grandchildren; Monica Lewandowski, Aaron Parker Darter-Jones, Trace Leith, Julian Gealow, Kira Leith, and Aubrey Gealow; 6 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Yvonne Simmons of Bloomfield; his nieces; and several cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Rich Lakin.
