Eloise Anthony Obituary

Eloise Anthony, 75, of Newton died on Friday, August 31, 2018, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 7, 2018, at St Luke Methodist Church.  The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, September 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the ALS Society may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Eloise, the daughter of Merrill and Florence (Poller) Rogers, was born on May 12, 1943, in Carroll.  She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1961.  After high school, Eloise attended Simpson College in Indianola and received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1965.

On July 3, 1965, Eloise was united in marriage with Danny Anthony in Carroll.  They lived in Grinnell while Eloise taught second grade at Gilman for three years before moving to Newton in 1968.  In the fall of that year, Eloise began at Emerson Hough Elementary teaching 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades.  Beginning in 1972, Eloise took eight years off from teaching for the birth of her two sons, Todd and Justin, before returning in 1980.  She then taught 1st grade at Emerson Hough until her retirement in 2006. After retirement she worked as a substitute teacher. Eloise’s love in life was teaching and that showed in the many teaching awards she was honored to receive. She was also a 50-year member of the Chapter M.E. P.E.O., Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, St. Luke Methodist Church, and Jasper County Retired Teachers.

Those left to honor Eloise’s memory are her husband, Danny Anthony of Newton; sons, Todd Anthony of Newton and Justin Anthony of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her sister, Carolee Evans of Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Ardith.
