Glenda Brown Obituary

Glenda’s funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 8th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 4-6:30 p.m., Monday, October 7th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Glenda’s name which will be divided between several organizations (please make checks payable to Don Brown). Memorials may be left at the funeral home. If you are mailing your memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Brown Family on the envelope.

Glenda Dee Mindham Brown, the daughter of Glenn and Cleo Dale “Dee” Alley Mindham was born on August 30, 1938 in Colfax, Iowa. She was a graduate of Colfax High School in 1956.                     

On June 8, 1956, Glenda was united in marriage with Donald “Don” L. Brown in Des Moines, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Kendall “Kenny”, Kristy and Kari.

Glenda and Don were owners and operators of KWIK Shop in Newton for 18 years. She had also worked at the Skiff Medical Center and Stockton’s Grocery Stores in Newton. Glenda was a member of the Newton Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved having her family around her, especially her grandchildren. Glenda loved feeding and taking care of her family, friends and neighbors. She had loved it when she and Don went on vacations. Glenda also enjoyed visiting the casinos. She was a loving and caring wife of 63+ years, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend.

Glenda died on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center in Newton. She was 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kendall “Kenny” Brown; brother, Dick Mindham; sister, Connie Allen; and brother-in-law, Donnie Russell.

Those left to cherish Glenda’s memory are her husband, Don; daughters, Kristy Knudsen (Tim Crook) of Newton and Kari (Curt) Tiffany of Newton; daughter-in-law, Sue Yoder of Newton; her grandchildren, Kendall A. Brown of Newton, Nick Knudsen of Newton, Mallory Knudsen (David) of Missoula, Montana, Abby Tiffany of Newton, Trent Tiffany of Newton, Matt Yoder (Latisha) of Newton, Nick Yoder (Brooke) of Newton and Jarod Yoder (Blake) of Bellevue, Washington; great-grandchildren, Jett, Myles and Alta Glen; her sisters, Carol Russell of Newton and Kathy (Les) Hall of Fargo, North Dakota; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Mindham of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
