William “Billy” Joseph Bernard III, 36, of Newton died on Monday, December 9, 2019, at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials to Billy’s family (checks made payable to Jhonna DeMarcky) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Billy, the son of William Joseph and Rhonda (Ellis) Bernard, Jr., was born on July 15 ,1983 in Des Moines. Growing up he split his time between Des Moines and Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Billy moved to Newton in 2017. He enjoyed his dogs, working on cars, and fixing things.

Billy is survived by his mother, Rhonda (Alonza) Thomas of Des Moines; daughter, Alexa Bernard of Rutherford, New Jersey; his siblings, Jhonna (Stephen) DeMarcky of West Des Moines, Dawn (Chris) Axness of Aledo, Texas, Catherine Bernard (Robert Sexton) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jackson Thomas of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews; his maternal grandfather, Jerry Ellis of Claremore, Oklahoma; and significant other, Eva Siegel of Newton. He was preceded in death by his father, William Joseph Bernard, Jr.; paternal grandparents, William and Shirley Bernard; maternal grandmother, Patricia Ellis; and an aunt, Geraldine Bernard.
