Anna Jean State, 92, of Ankeny, formerly of Ira, died on Monday, March 9, 2020, at Mill Pond in Ankeny. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and again after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials to the Ira United Church may be left at the funeral home.
Jean, the daughter of Otis and Neva (Prine) Warner, was born on May 26, 1927 at the family home in Ira. She was a lifelong resident of Ira and graduated from Mingo High School. After graduation she worked at Cownie Furs and the Bell Telephone Company both in Des Moines.
On August 23, 1947, Jean was united in marriage with Robert State at the Christian Church in Ira. She was a homemaker, raising the couple’s children. Jean was an active member of the First Christian Church in Newton and later attended church at the Ira United Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, mushroom hunting, and cooking. She was also known for her wonderful rhubarb pies. Jean was an aspiring artist and many members of her family have a picture that she had painted for them. She and Robert along with their kids enjoyed spending time at their vacation home at North Star Lake in Minnesota.
Jean is survived by her husband, Robert State of Ankeny; children, Janna State of Newton, Connie Patterson of San Diego, California, Karen Hunter of Lustre, Montana, and Robert State (Kim Barton) of Altoona; her grandchildren, Steve Hunter, Bryce (Ashley) Hunter, Dustin Hunter (Kerri Freidhof), Heather Patterson, Grant Patterson, Dave Owens, Jenny (James) Gibson, Julie Hunter, and Julian (Jenn) State; great-grandchildren, Kiersten (Andrew), Riley, Andrew, Jessie, Brett, Grace, Cameron, Emily, Alani, Jeremiah, and Jaden; her sister, Janet Clement of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Joan and Jane State, in infancy; and her siblings, Kenneth Warner, Velma Hanan, and Keith Warner.
