Charles DeBruyn Obituary

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.  Memorials to Progress Industries or Community Heights Alliance Church can be left at the funeral home.

   Chuck, the son of Carl and Delia (Holmes) DeBruyn, was born January 21, 1935, in Galesburg. He moved to Newton in 1957. He was united in marriage with Roselyn Wisecup on June 28, 1957, in West Des Moines. In 1962, Chuck joined the Newton Police Department. He retired as a Lieutenant in 1990. He also served as a member of the Iowa National Guard for 8 years, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. Chuck was a longtime member of Community Heights Alliance Church. He enjoyed hunting for deer and turkey, spending time with friends and family, and taking daily walks outside. 

   Chuck is survived by his wife, Rosie of Newton; children, Dave (Rosela) DeBruyn of Newton, Deb (Todd) White of Walsenburg, Colorado, and Scott DeBruyn of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Kara DeBruyn of Des Moines, Amanda (Sean) Sanchez of Walsenburg, Colorado, Marc DeBruyn of Urbandale, Devin White of Pueblo, Colorado, and Kristina DeBruyn of Minburn; and two-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Rowan Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna DeBruyn; nine brothers; and four sisters.
