Connie Sue Thompson, 63, of Newton died on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, at the First Assembly of God Church. Connie, the daughter of Irving and Cleo Fern (Lockwood) Thompson, was born on December 28, 1955 in Newton.  She graduated from Newton High School in 1973 and then received her two-year degree in Church Administration from North Central Bible College.  While attending school she worked for the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.  After graduation she returned to Newton and did bookkeeping for Nollen Drugstore until 1990 when she began her dream job as the Administrative Assistant at the Newton First Assembly of God Church.

In addition to her 29-year employment at First Assembly of God she was also an active and dedicated member, serving on boards and organizing banquets and fellowship.  Connie also loved to sing and cook.  She had an extensive cookbook collection and a secret chocolate chip cookie recipe that many would say is the best around.  Connie also enjoyed traveling with her family which resulted in many memorable trips.

Connie is survived by her siblings, Sheila (Nolan) Kelsey of Newton, Rick (Paula) Thompson of Denton, Texas, Becky (Dennis) Danley of Osceola, and Sherry (Mark) Williams of Altoona; her nieces and nephews, Tobe Kelsey, Amanda Bower, Rickie (Emily) Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Cory (Carrie) Danley, Caleb (Jenni) Danley, Sarah (Danny) Butrick, and Dustin (Jenni) Williams; her many great nieces and nephews; paternal aunt, Patricia Thompson of Marshalltown and maternal uncle, Max (Joan) Lockwood of San Tan Valley, Arizona.  She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
