Deanna Rae (Phillips) Schafer

Deanna Rae Schafer, 72, of Newton died on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, at the funeral home. Memorials in Deanna’s name (checks made payable to Jodi Albertson) may be left at the funeral home. 

Deanna, the daughter of Walter and Maxine R. (Robertson) Phillips, was born on July 20, 1949 in Des Moines. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1967.  For over 30 years, Deanna has worked at Pyramid Inc. She was a member of the First Christian Church.  Her family and her church were the most important things in her life.  Deanna loved people and never knew a stranger.  She also was a talented baker and cook.

Deanna is survived by her children, Kevin (Jennifer) Schafer of Newton and Jodi (Dusty) Albertson of Newton; grandchildren, Marissa (Austin) McPherson, Zachary Schafer, Austin Sellers, DJ Albertson, and Shelbi Albertson; her great-grandchildren, Harper and Buster; and siblings, Glenna (Dallas) Bunger of Jackson, Tennessee and Craig (Nancy) Phillips of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
