Delbert Bayles Obituary

Delbert Ray Bayles, 90, of Newton died on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home. A private family burial will be held in the Veteran’s Section of Newton Union Cemetery

Delbert, the son of Jesse James and Alice (Smool) Bayles, was born on July 27, 1932 in Newton. He grew up in the Grinnell and Kellogg areas.  Delbert served his country in the U.S. Navy during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  He served on the USS Hancock, USS Ranger, and USS Colahan.  After returning, Delbert made his home in Newton. He worked for Lammon’s in Grinnell and the Maytag Foundry in Newton.  Delbert was a member of the VFW Post 1655.

Those left to honor Delbert’s memory are his brothers, Glenn (Sandra) Bayles of Newton and Harvey (Bobbie) Bayles of Aztec, New Mexico and his special friend, Donna Terrebrood. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Loren Bayles, Bertha Charma, and Lila Bayles; and a son, Bruce.
