Dwight served his county in the Iowa National Guard for six years attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was honorably discharged on January 11, 1957. Dwight was united in marriage with Beverly Griffith and they were blessed with five children. They made their home in Newton in the 1950’s. Dwight worked at the Maytag Company and did outside maintenance at the Maytag Dairy Farm. After his retirement, Dwight did handyman work around the Newton area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a great story teller, loving to reminisce about his time at Maytag and the Dairy Farm. And through all the ups and downs, Dwight was a loyal and avid Chicago Cubs fan.
