Edwin Wheeler, 86, of Newton passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. A graveside service at Coon Rapids Cemetery followed by a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Edwin’s name to American Legion Post #111 in Newton.
Edwin, the son of Ralph and Norma (Owen) Wheeler, was born October 2, 1937 in Carroll, Iowa. He graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1955. In August of 1960, Edwin was united in marriage to Juan Sorensen at the Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Following their marriage, the two owned Wheelers Lounge and Supper Club for a number of years. Afterward, he worked in sales and management, retiring in 2016 from Keystone Labs. He was also a member of American Legion Post #111. Edwin enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping, traveling, and entertaining friends and family.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Juan (Sorensen) Wheeler; daughter, Michelle Wheeler (Mike) Edwards; grandchildren, Adam (Kim) Mueller, Travis Mueller, and Michael Edwards; great-grandsons, Adam Mueller Jr. and Michael Edwards Jr.; sister, Sherry Christensen of Denver; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Wheeler; and sisters, Beverly and Barbara K.
