Gary Lee “Snod” Snodgrass, 85, of Newton died on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A private family burial will be held. Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gary, the son of Ray and Marjorie (Harper) Snodgrass, was born on February 19, 1939, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1957. On September 26, 1959, Gary was united in marriage with Jolane Davis in Colfax. He worked as a machinist for the Parson Co. and later for Cline Tool, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, and all sports, including being a member of bowling leagues in the past. He also loved to support his children and grandchildren at their activities.
Gary is survived by his two children, Cindy (Tim) Doran of Newton and David (Deanna) Snodgrass of Arvada, Colorado; grandchildren, Jolaina (Dan) Lawson, Tyler (Jessica) Doran, and Lindsay (Cole) White; his great-grandchildren, Jesse, Mia, Charlie, Jace, Noah, Drake, Dodger, and Beckham; and his sister, Mardelle Fleming of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jolane in 2021; his brother, Larry Snodgrass; and brother-in-law, Bill Fleming.
