Helen Marie Bauer, 83, of Newton, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at her home. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials in Helen’s name (checks made payable to Harold Swan, Jr.) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Helen, the daughter of Eric Hans and Ruth (Urban) Heinze, was born on August 5, 1938 in Terre Bella, California. She graduated from high school and received her nursing certificate. She worked as a CNA at a hospital in California. After spending time between Texas and California, Helen moved to Iowa in the late 1970’s. In 1977, she was united in marriage with James Bauer. In addition to being a homemaker, Helen delivered the Des Moines Register for years and also mowed yards and shoveled snow. She enjoyed coloring, baking, crocheting, and doing yardwork.
Helen is survived by her children, Eric Trout and Harold Swan, Jr. (Mesenda), both of Newton; grandchildren, Alex Swan, Skai Swan (Eric Cassady), Caleb Swan, Carle Schwochow, Kollin Hupp, Dominick Wallace, and Brennden Myers; her great-grandchildren, James, Colt, and Troy; and a sister, Doris (John) Toste. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Bauer in 2009; and a sister, Pat Heinze.
