Ingrida “Ing” Klavins Benskin, the daughter of Edgar and Hedviga Kestli Klavins was born on

February 12, 1942 in Tukumus, Latvia. She was a graduate of Newton High School in 1961 and a graduate of St. Barnabas School of X-Ray in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1963.

On October 12, 1963, Ing was united in marriage with Steven P. Benskin in Newton. They were blessed with two children, Angie in 1964 and Thad in 1967.

After her family was raised, she joined the Maytag Company working as a production worker in Dryer Assembly for 21 years, retiring in 2008. Ing was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton where she belonged to the Lois Circle. She was also a member of Questors, Olive Jane Lamb Chapter No. 750. Ing was a member of UAW 997 Retiree’s Union.

Ing loved being around water with her family. She enjoyed working and going to her church. Ing always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She brought joy to all who knew her. Ing lived in Newton for 71 years.

Ing died on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center in Newton. She was 77. She was preceded in death by for her parents, Edgar and Hedviga Kestli Klavins.

Those left to cherish Ing’s memory are her husband, Steven of Newton; daughter, Angie (Dan) Hummel of Dallas, Texas; son, Thad (Fabiana) Benskin of Newton, her four grandchildren, Devin, Blake and Taylor Hummel and Savannah Benskin.
