Jay Wesley Hunt, Jr., 84, of Newton died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials in Jay’s name (checks made payable to Esther Hunt) may be left at the funeral home.
Jay, the son of Jay Wesley Hunt, Sr. and Neola (Melick) Hunt, was born on February 27, 1938, in Pleasantville. He graduated from Pleasantville High School and then moved to Newton to work for the Maytag Company. Jay then went into the Redimix business and started Cardinal Trucking with partner, Bob McQuiston. They later sold the business and it is now called Jasper Construction Services. Jay continued to manage operations there after the sale, retiring in September of 2014. Up until recently he still enjoyed stopping in to see everyone. Jay was united in marriage with Esther Swaim in 1982 in Marshalltown. Jay was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gun collecting. Jay and Esther also enjoyed taking road trips across America and trips to Mexico. He also loved to spoil his dog, Suki.
Jay is survived by his wife, Esther Hunt of Newton; daughters, Theckla Hendrickson, Tonya Roland, and Carolyn Lee Pomikal, all of Brenham, Texas; his son, Troy (Lea) Morris of Altoona; grandchildren, Alexis Geary, Lillian Morris, London Morris, Leslie Gilbert, Benjamin Avila, Jessie Hendrickson, and Jamie Hendrickson; several great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Janet Clark of Seattle, Washington and Randy (Stella) Hunt of Weatherford, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Hunt in infancy; two grandsons, Casey Roland and Kyle Roland; and two brothers, Ronnie Hunt and Larry Hunt.
