Jeannie Boettcher Obituary

Jeannie L. (Kingery) Hobbs Boettcher, 78, of Kellogg died on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 28, at the funeral home.  Memorials to the Kellogg Christian Church, Kellogg Lion’s Club, or to the Donor’s Choice may be left at the funeral home. 

Jeannie, the daughter of Clarence and June (Myers) Kingery, was born on August 7, 1943 in rural Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1961.  The following year she graduated from Iowa School of Beauty. On November 17, 1962, Jeannie was united in marriage with Larry Hobbs in Newton. She was later married to Fredrick “Fred” Boettcher on June 25, 1971 in Kellogg. Jeannie worked for 37 years as a production worker at Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg, retiring in 2004. At Midwest she was a member of the GMP Local 74B Union and served as treasurer for many years. After Fred’s death, Jeannie was united in marriage with James “Jim” Boettcher on April 10, 2004 in Kellogg. 

Jeannie was active in 4-H from the age of nine; she was a member, leader and then superintendent.  She was a member of the Navy Mother’s Club, Kellogg Christian Church DOC, Kellogg Lion’s Club, and the Fillmore, Wisconsin United Church of Christ.  She served on the Jasper County Fair Board, was the Jasper County Fair Grand Marshall in 2017, and volunteered at the Kellogg Museum. Jeannie had also done props for the Jasper County Theatre for many productions, helped transport eye tissue for the Lions Club, and delivered congregate home meals.  Jeannie enjoyed fishing, camping, doing crafts, word search and jigsaw puzzles, and playing computer games. She also loved to spend time with her family. 

Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Jenise Huizenga of Newton; daughter-in-law, Jeri Smith of Newton; step-children, Barbara (Randy) Heil, Daniel Boettcher, Judy Degnitz, Jody (Gary) Schmidt, and David (Beth) Boettcher and their families; her grandchildren, Jory (Skyler) Ringler, Codi (Brandon) Graff, Kendra (Mitch) Lane, Lewis (Shelby) Hobbs, Jr., Andrew Hobbs, Jacob Huizenga, and Kylea (Mikey) Ruiz; great-grandchildren, Milo, Shiloh, Hadley, Fletcher, River, Bridger, and Waylon; her brothers, George (Leanna) Kingery and Gerald “Jerry” (Joyce) Kingery, both of Newton; sister, Janette “Jann” (Curtis) Braaksma of Lynnville; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband and the father of her children, Larry in 1971; second husband, Fred in 2000; third husband, Jim in 2020; and son, Lewis Hobbs, Sr. in 1996.
