John Michael Long, 74, of Newton died on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation.
John, the son of Virgil and Mary (Doland) Long, was born on August 16, 1946, in Newton. He grew up in Baxter. John lived in Newton most of his adult life. He worked and later retired from Wes Finch Auto as a car detailer. John loved going to swap meets and car shows.
John is survived by his siblings, Linda (Oscar) Frias of Cleveland, Texas, Kathi Klingensmith of Newton, Virginia (Jim) Meek of Phoenix, Arizona, Joyce Long (Bob Wouters) of Davenport, and Jeff (Kris) Long of Newton; his many nieces and nephews, including nephew Danny Long of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and a sister, Sue Buckley.
