Julia Joyce “Judy” Brungardt, 79, of Newton died on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to Judy’s family (checks made payable to Al Brungardt) may be left at the funeral home.
Judy, the daughter of Vernon and Myra (Valentine) Wearmouth, was born on October 22, 1940 in Monroe. She grew up in Coalport and Monroe; graduating from Monroe High School in 1959. Judy was united in marriage with Al Brungardt on July 6, 1959 in Newton. They made their home in Monroe until the mid 1980’s when they moved to Newton. Judy received her CMA degree from DMACC and worked at many Newton area nursing homes. She also worked in the family business, Al’s Fencing and Tree Service. Judy enjoyed watching birds and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband, Al Brungardt of Newton; children, Cindy (Barry) Wineland of Newton, Mike (Jodi) Brungardt of Polk City, Diana (Lee) Smith of Ira, and Lori (Dennis) Coulson of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Shirley Cabrera of Mason City, Darlene Palm of Knoxville, Dean (Janice) Rankin of Pella, Jerald (Celeste) Rankin of Knoxville, Margaret (Phil) Ball of Texas, Carolyn Rankin of Omaha, and Wendy (Jim) Cleverly of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Wearmouth and Myra Visser; step-father, Harold Rankin; two grandchildren, Laci Lynn Brungardt and Eddie Smith; great-grandson, Ronan Finn Uss; and siblings, Bobbi Ford, Faye Nicholson, Alice Kapping, and Chuck Rankin.
