Larry Reavis Obituary

Larry E. Reavis, 71, of Newton died on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.  The family will greet friends from 3-6 p.m., Monday, September 28, at the Izaak Walton League.  Memorials in Larry’s name (checks may be made to Betty Reavis) may be left at the Ike’s or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Larry, the son of Wilbur and Dora (Wright) Reavis, was born on July 15, 1949 in Grinnell.  As a teenager, the family moved to Newton.  He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1967.  He then graduated with an Associates degree in Tool and Die. Larry was united in marriage with Betty Hesse on April 27, 1974 in Newton.  He worked for many years as a mechanic at Axtell Ford.  Later he worked for the Maytag Company.  While on layoff with Maytag he returned to school and got a Computer Technician degree from DMACC and worked for Multi Packaging and Printing for a short period of time. After returning to the Maytag Company he retired in 2006. Larry was a member of the Local 997 and served as the secretary for the Jasper County chapter of the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA). Larry loved to bowl and was very active in getting his kids involved in bowling.  He also enjoyed picnics, fishing, and working on cars.

Larry is survived by his wife, Betty of Newton; children, Amanda Reavis-Alter (Ramey) of Grinnell, Lorrie Reavis (Brendt Roney) of Newton, and Misty Reavis (Terry Kephart) of Grinnell; son-in-law, James Burtlow of Newton; grandchildren, Bronson Alter, Shevi Alter, Ryley Roney, Layla Reavis, Shayla Winchell, Bentley Burtlow, and Lara Burtlow; his siblings, Wilbur Reavis of Iowa City, Rita (Dick) Beal of Columbia, Terry (Linda) Mudra of Newton, John Mudra of Reansor, and Robby (Nedra) Mudra of Centerville; brother-in-law, David (Linda) Hesse of Seymour; and his many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nikki Burtlow; and three sisters, Lois Hesse, Peggy Mudra, and Debra Sidwell.
