Leslie Gene Creech, 94, formerly of Newton, died on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to an Animal Rescue League of the donor’s choice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gene, the son of Forest Wayne and Mary Madge (Kirkland) Creech, was born on December 28, 1928 in Centerville. Gene lived in Centerville until the age of 7 when his family moved to Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1947 and then community college in 1949. Gene was united in marriage with Mary Janet Madoll on December 17, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois. Gene worked as an Industrial Engineer for 34 years at the Maytag Company. During his time there he also received his B.A. from Drake University. He retired in 1983. Gene had served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 13 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed reading, coin collecting, dancing, boating, going on walks, and traveling. Gene had a sweet tooth and loved ice cream and other sweet treats.
Gene is survived by his four children, Leslie (Mary) Creech, Jr. of Newton, Teresa (Geno) Dennison of Port Byron, Illinois, Jackie Creech of Newton, and Carmen (Mike) Cuesta of Clive; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Janet Creech; and a brother, Kenny Creech.
