Michael Dean Lane, 73, of Newton died on Monday, November 1, 2021, at his home, his death was not COVID related. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 19, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. The family will then greet friends from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in Mike’s name (checks made payable to Kelly Revell) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Mike, the son of George Leo and Wilma (Bagnall) Lane, was born on August 31, 1948 in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Mike graduated from Newton High School and then served his country in the US Army during Vietnam. Mike worked for many years at Newton Waterworks and most recently as a truck driver. He had raised show rabbits and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He loved to fish.
Mike is survived by his two daughters, Kelly (Jake), Shannon (Larry); grandchildren, Derek (Summer), Joshua (Michelle), Jordyn (Brenda), Tyler, Jaysa (Josh), and Darren (LeeAnne); his great-grandchildren, Emma, Liliana, Sarahy, Ruby, Kimberlee, and Waylon; siblings, Tim Lane of Spencer and Jim (Liz) Lane of Pleasant Hill; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Camden in infancy; and brother, Larry Lane.
