Obituary

Oscar Alex Mendez, 51, of Newton died on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A service and burial will be held in New Mexico at a later date.

Alex, the son of Placido Delgado and Maria Solis, was born on February 25, 1971, and grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  As an infant he moved to the United States and was raised in New Mexico.  Alex graduated from high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  He later moved to Phoenix, Arizona and had lived in Iowa for the last 15 years.  Alex had resided in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and most recently Newton.  He had attended DMACC and was working in customer service at Windstream.  Alex enjoyed music and his favorite band was Dokken.  He also liked electronics including computers and video games.  Alex loved his cats, Max, Pip, Roxy, and Penny.

Alex is survived by his significant other, Larry Hamilton of Newton; his siblings, Jose Mendez, Imelda Delgado, Hortencia Diaz, and Olga Canales; nephews, Patrick Delgado, Manuel Canales, Jr., Jessica Canales, Ismael Gonsalez, and Lilibeth Delgado.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Solis; step-father, Manuel Mendez Galvan; father, Placido Delgado; and siblings, Guadalupe Mitchell, Maria Cruz Mendez, and Jorge Delgado.
