Richard “Rick” Robert Northcutt, 75, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at MercyOne Johnston Hospice. The family will greet friends from 12:30-2 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Rick’s name (checks made payable to Kelly Callison) may be left at the funeral home.
Rick, the son of George and Betty (Hummel) Sickle, was born on February 12, 1947 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School and then joined the Job Corp; learning building maintenance in New Mexico. Upon returning to Newton, he worked maintenance in many places around the area including Newton Manufacturing, the Jasper County Care Facility, and the Newton Motor Inn. Richard was united in marriage with Bonnie Stoner. They lived in Newton and later moved to Missouri. Following Bonnie’s death in 2000, Rick moved back to Newton. For the last 13 years, he had lived in Des Moines. Rick enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army, WWE Wrestling, gardening, spending time in his pool, and playing the slot machines at Prairie Meadows. He and his significant other, Betty, also liked to go “curbin” during the spring clean-up days.
Rick is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Russell) Callison of Prairie City and Misty (Jarrod) Fontanini of Granger; grandchildren, Jessica, Nancy, Miranda, Kelsey, Russell, Jr., Hailey, Madison, and Lydia; his seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and his significant other, Betty Huffmann of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie Northcutt; brother, Wayne Northcutt; grandson, Hunter Pierce; and a great-grandson, Brandon Van Sant.
