Rick, the son of Larry D. and Lelah J. (DeHaai) Robson, was born August 31, 1959, in Newton. He grew up in England and Newton, and graduated from Newton High School in 1977. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1978 and was stationed in Alameda, California, where he was a jet engine mechanic and played football for the Air Base football team. Following his discharge in 1982, Rick moved back to Newton briefly before attending Bible College, where he became an ordained minister.  He had also owned video rental stores and had most recently worked at Wal-Mart.  Rick was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.  He had been a longtime member of the I-Club and also the American Legion. Rick also did inspirational speaking and did daily testimonials for his friends on Facebook.
