Stan Clement Obituary

Stan J. Clement, 72, of Newton died on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at his home. A drive thru service will be held at the Iowa Speedway from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2020.  The service will be broadcast on the Iowa Speedway’s radio station 98.9 FM. Only enclosed vehicles (no motorcycles) will be allowed on the track and all participants are required to stay in their vehicles. To attend the service please enter from Lincoln Street to access the tunnel and follow all directional instructions once inside the track. Following the service, a private family burial will be held at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends are invited to join in the procession to the cemetery.  If you would like to participate please return to the tunnel entrance of the track at 2 p.m.  Cards and memorials for the family will be accepted the day of the service or can be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League or the St Nick’s Christmas Club. 

Stan, the son of Leland H. “Tag” and H. Irene (Ballard) Clement, was born on January 9, 1948 in Newton.  He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1966.  In high school, Stan participated in all sports, with the highlight being his senior year when he hit a homerun to beat West Des Moines Valley.  After high school, Stan served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1966-1972.  On October 27, 1979, Stan was united in marriage with Gloria M. Green in Newton.  Two boys, Luke and Tyler completed their family. Stan was in Agri Business and Development for most of his life. Following Gloria’s death in 1989, Stan was united in marriage with Brenda Brodersen on May 1, 2004, at their home in Newton. Stan was an instrumental visionary for the Iowa Speedway which broke ground in 2005 and had their first race in 2006. He served as the President of Iowa Speedway until his retirement in 2013. Stan was a lifelong sports fan and was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed golfing and taking care of his yard. He was a member at the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, the Newton Elks Lodge, and the NASCAR Foundation.  

Stan is survived by his wife, Brenda of Newton; sons, Luke Clement and Tyler (Sabrina) Clement, both of Newton; step-daughters, Jennifer Lasagna of Lewisville, Texas and Alyson (Jeff) Matney of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Gloria Clement, Jake, Joe, and Bodie Morrison, and Oliva and Sofia Lasagna; his brothers, Conrad Clement of Cresco, Larry (Kathy) Clement of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bruce Clement of Des Moines, Dave (Martha) Clement of Ottumwa, and Brad (Cyndy) Clement of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister, Carmen (Clement) Henderson of Russellville, Alabama; and his many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Gloria.
