Troy Hammer Obituary

A Celebration of Troy's Life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, August 4, 2019, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the American Heart Association or to Troy’s family can be left at the funeral home.

Troy, the son of Richard and Becky (Little) Hammer, was born February 4, 1969, in Iowa City. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1987. He worked as a meat cutter at Fareway for several years, before working at Midwest Mfg. and then for The Maytag Company.  He later worked at the Mitchellville Correctional Facility.  Troy was a member of the UAW Local 997. He was also a member of the Make It or Break It 4-Wheeler Club and supported his sons as a member of the Undead Fight Team.  He had also been a part of the CPR Raceway and mud drags.  Troy enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams, going fishing, hunting, lawnmower racing, and was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan.  In his younger years, he was an avid golfer.

Troy is survived by his children: Greg Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Elijah Hammer, Noah Hammer, and Josi Hammer, all of Newton; 3 grandchildren: Adriana, Ian, and Brycen; his parents, Richard and Becky Hammer of Newton; brother, Travis Hammer (Diana) of Minburn; sister, Erin Yeager (Dustin) of Newton; niece, Hannah Yeager of Newton; his grandmothers, Ginny Hammer of Coralville and LeDeanna Davis of OK; his special friend, Yvonne Hudson; the mothers of his children, Maria Gragg and Tracy Hammer; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Troy was preceded in death by his brother, Trevor Hammer; maternal grandparents; paternal grandfather; and a cousin, Chris Jerimer.
