W. "Willie" E. (Halterman) LaFond

Willie’s Celebration of Life Visitation with a light lunch will be from 1-3 p.m., Friday, January 3rd at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Willie’s name to help purchase a new family cemetery marker (please make checks payable to Michell LaFond) or to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. If you are mailing the memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: LaFond Family on the envelope.

W. E. “Willie” Halterman LaFond, the daughter of Martin N. and Lilly A. Garr Halterman was born on June 23, 1957 in Newton, Iowa.         

Willie had been a cook and chef at several different places but most recently she had been a cook at Casey’s. Willie loved having her family around. She also had enjoyed reading, watching movies, mushroom hunting and animals. Willie liked to make people smile with her ornery personality.

Willie died on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 62. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Wilbur and Leonard Halterman; and two sisters, Barbara Lemke and Marilyn Halterman.

Those left to cherish Willie’s memory are her daughters, Michell LaFond of Sanford, Michigan and Felica LaFond (Justin Crisler) of Benton Harbor, Michigan; four grandchildren, Trevor Briggs, Christopher, Skylar and Amy Crisler; her sister, Donna Morton of Newton and many nieces and nephews.
