William "Bill" Olmesdahl Obituary

William “Bill” A. Olmesdahl, 53, of Urbandale, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bill’s family (checks may be made to Jennifer Olmesdahl) may be left at the funeral home.

Bill, the son of William and Eileen (Bollin) Olmesdahl, was born on May 13, 1966 in Cornwall, New York.  In 1968, his family moved to Manassass, Virginia where they remained until 1975 when they moved to Vestal, NY. Bill graduated from Vestal High School in 1984 and attended SUNY Binghamton for English Literature.  He worked as a Sales Manager and Game Creator for TSR (later known as West End Games). In 1997, Bill moved to Urbandale, Iowa where he was an IT Manager for Stelter Company and Kuder. He received his Degree in Internet Technology from Kaplan University.  On June 21, 2008, he was united in marriage with Jennifer Miller in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He enjoyed Mystery Science Theater and had created his own robots from the show. Bill liked running tabletop games for his friends, watching old black and white TV shows and movies, and 3D printing.  He was also a published author that wrote gaming books and articles for gaming magazines. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Jennifer Olmesdahl of Urbandale; daughter, Sarah Olmesdahl of Urbandale; step-sons, Alexander (Shelby) Bogart of Waukee and Brandon Helm (Jasmine Banwell) of Waukee; his grandson, Cole Bogart; parents, William and Eileen Olmesdahl of Oneonta, New York; his sisters, Dawn Olmesdahl-Baxter of Ocean Gate, New Jersey and Heather (Michael) Ross of Oneonta, New York; nieces and nephews, Dakota Gleason, Kyle Gleason, Kaity Baxter, Kelsey Baxter, Jessica (Kyle) Buel, and Matthew Ross; his great-nephew, Noah Buel; his Aunt Barbara Hopper of Thomas Ridge, NY; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.Wil
