Robert “Bob” Elmer Bowie, 82, of Chariton, formerly of Newton died on Friday, November 10, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.
Bob, the son of Theodore and LaVerne (Drake) Bowie, was born on January 2, 1935 in Newton. He grew up and lived most of his life in Newton. Bob was a self-employed hardwood floor layer and loved animals.
Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his children, Rebecca Jones of Ottumwa, Kimberly (Terry) Jordan, Milton Bowie of Chariton, Lori (Roger) Andera of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Susan Ford of Monroe; the children’s mother, Betty Bowie of Newton; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gracie Halterman of Newton and Dorothy Stoner of Moberly, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and William Bowie; a granddaughter, Christina Chapman; two sisters, Winifred Chapman and Edna Mae Ridgeway; and a brother, Theodore Bowie.
