Marilyn K. (Maxwell) Doty Brown

A funeral mass will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 20th at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 305 E. Howard St. in Colfax.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 19th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorials in Marilyn’s name may be left at the church at the time of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Brown Family on the envelope.

Marilyn, the daughter of Bert L. and Olive Ellen Banta Maxwell was born in Mingo, Iowa and attended Mingo schools.

On March 14, 1950, Marilyn was united in marriage with Kenneth E. Doty in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They were blessed with six children, Ed, Jody, Bob, twins, Randy and Rhonda and KC. She worked in the Art Department for the Vernon Company in Newton for 30 years. After retiring from the Vernon Company she was a greeter at Wal-Mart for 11 years. Marilyn was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. She loved being with all of her family. She was devoted in her faith reading her Bible daily and saying the Rosary. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, writing poetry and she was well known for singing (Christmas Jingles) at Wal-Mart.

Following the death of her husband Kenneth in 2008, Marilyn was united in marriage with her longtime friend, William C. “Bill” Brown on November 7, 2015 in Colfax.

Marilyn died on Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, she was 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Kenneth in 2008; son, Bob Doty in 2012 and eight brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her husband, Bill of Mingo; children, Ed (Rita) Doty of Altoona, Jody (John) Maher of Newton, Randy Doty of Mingo, Rhonda (John) Milligan of Mingo and Kenneth Charles “KC” Doty of Hawaii; step children, Dennis (Donna) Pittman of Des Moines and Diana (Mike) Cliffton of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; her twelve grandchildren,    Chris (Holly), Tiffany (Rusty), Robbie (Jamie), Mandy (Justin), Lindsey (Josh), Dana (Neal), Landon (Melissa), Ryan (Brandi) Chad (Kalen), Dane, Mica (Austin) and Lance; her three step grandchildren, Brian (Sue), Stephanie (Michael) and Courtney; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
