Chad Anthony Shores, 47, a devoted father and talented musician, of Newton died on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. After the service there will be a tribute concert at the American Legion. Memorials in Chad’s name to be used for his daughters may be left at the funeral home.
Chad, the son of Del and Ellen (Ward) Shores, was born on March 29, 1970 in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and was known to many in the area for his love and passion for music. Chad organized many jam sessions and music events at the local VFW. In his desire to help others he also taught guitar lessons and was a mentor to many area musicians and bands. Although he liked all music, Heavy Metal was his preferred genre.
In addition, Chad was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and New York Yankees fan. He also loved to fish, starting as a young boy fishing in Rock Creek and later having many different fishing holes in the Skunk River and surrounding areas.
Chad is survived by his daughters, Jerney, Megan, and Rayna Shores, all of Newton; parents, Ellen (Dick) Graber of Newton and Del (Carol) Shores of Urbandale; his brother, Brian (Nicki) Shores of Newton; step-siblings, Matt (Ashley) Graber of West Des Moines, Alicia (Mike) Mohr of Ankeny, Rona Skow of Newton, and Heather (Paul) Brown of Tacoma, Washington; his grandmother, Fannie Shores of Newton; and nieces and nephews, Austin, Devin, and Libby Shores, Maddex and Merrik Mohr, Nate Butler, Stevie Skow, Brooklyn Mallicoat, Meradith (Mike) Cramer, and Taylor and Nina Brown. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Millard and Irene Ward and paternal grandfather, Delbert Shores.
